Week 1 : Giants vs Cowboys
It's always the same story. After a long wait that seems almost interminable, one is almost surprised when the season arrives. Yet it is well is the big day, that of the return of the Cowboys to the competition. After leaving frustrated and terribly disappointed, we could have imagined better opponent to launch a season. Indeed the Giants had beaten twice the Cowboys last season, and the New York team remains on 3 consecutive wins in direct confrontation. No doubt Dallas at home will be brought up, and will have to heart to launch a new season by bringing down his executioner.
A defense that concedes more than it yields -
If we can be pretty sure of the production of the Cowboys in attack, at the beginning of the season the defense remains full of uncertainties. Marinelli has learned over the years to deal with squads more or less well-stocked, and he will again face the many starts of his players in the offseason. He had built the best defense in recent years. He must therefore reconstruct, with new rooms, a building whose plans are known. A defense that prefers to concede a few yards to better straighten out in the areas that matter and force gaol fields. This strategy which demands a lot of self-denial of the players in particular in the quality of the tackles will be renewed. We will therefore be particularly vigilant to the effectiveness of our defenders in their veneers.
We learn that Jaylon Smith will be in front of Justin Durant as MLB in the middle of the defense. The player drafted two years ago but who did not play last year due to a nervous knee injury will therefore return to the competition. In front of it should also have a rotation for the pass rush and also see the debut of Taco Charlton drafted in the first round this year. New blood so in front of a defense that has a fairly consistent challenge facing an attack of the Giants capable of the best as well as the worst. Even if the Cowboys do not manage to put Manning on the ground, which is rather rare statistically, the pressure before him influences its effectiveness which drastically decreases to 75.8. Make him watch the pass rush rather than his receivers will already be very good. Especially as Odell Beckham embarrassed by his ankle may be diminished if he plays or even forfeit. The Giants had a very low percentage of success in 3rd down last season, and 29% of their offensive drives were 3 and out. The defense must therefore be solid on the first games and force the Giants to play 3rd downs.
On the offensive side, we know the weapons of Dallas. Honestly there is quality everywhere. So if we expect a big game of the offensive squad this will go through a good match of the offensive line. And the task will be ample since on the other side the pass rush is of high quality. So it's a big challenge for Tyron Smith and La'El Collins our two tackles, which will have to contain the assaults of Jason Pierre Paul and Olivier Vernon. What to see right away if collins conversion from guard to tackle is viable. Besides, Chaz Green will play the role of left guard.
The best way to contain the pass-rush is to provide an effective ground clearance, and Dallas should be delighted to be able to do so with Ezekiell Elliott, who enjoys a judicial delay. It's still a big plus to be able to line up such a player in a division match. In the two defeats last season, the Giants had won mostly thanks to their defense who had found the keys to contain Elliott and force the turnovers. This defense led by Spagnuolo is a test of size to start a season. Later the game will be launched on the field of the pass is better it will be for the Cowboys, although no doubt that like the Duel Manning-Romo, Prescott would be up to the debates.
